Step 3 Replacement of Pin Code Generator (PCG)- Replacement arrives

For- Queensland School Ticketing (QST) operators

Once you have the replacement unit, these are the next steps to take.

  • Remove the replacement device from the packaging.  If you are returning a damaged/faulty device, keep the box, bubble wrap and return postage satchel.
  • The registration number of the vehicle this device is assigned to is written on the box.
  • At one end of the device is a USB plug.  The other end is the display screen for the pin code.

  • Perform a quick power test prior to taking to the vehicle, plug the device into a computer USB.  The screen will power on, displaying "QLD Pin Code Generator" for 3 seconds, then the serial number of the device will be displayed for 5 seconds.  Example below.

Removing the faulty device - (please ensure the bus is turned off )  The location of the USB port will depend on the type of  bus and the amount of access available during installation. All PCG are at the rear of the vehicle.

Below is an example of the USB port installed for the PCG.  The USB port should not be removed unless instructed.

  • Flush mount USB port- the USB port is visible and mounted at the rear of the vehicle, unplug the USB plug and remove the screws or rivets that are holding the display screen in place.  Take note of the cable management used for excess cable to replicate when re fitting the replacement.
  • Hidden USB port- the USB port maybe hidden behind a panel or in ducting at the rear of the bus.  Follow the cable of the PCG to the cable access point in the panel of the bus. (generally has a rubber grommet and a small cut out to allow cable through)  You will need to gain access to behind this panel to locate the USB plug.  This could involve removing interior panel(s) of the bus.  Take note of the cable management used for excess cable to replicate when re fitting the replacement. Once you have located the USB port, unplug the USB of the faulty/damage device and feed any excess cable through the access point.  Remove the screws or rivets that hold the display screen in place.

Installing the replacement device-

  • Flush mount USB port- plug the USB plug into the USB port.  Secure the PCG display screen in the same position the faulty device was removed from.  Use the same cable management that the faulty device used.
  • Hidden USB port- Feed the USB plug through the access point and plug the device into the USB port and test power is going to the PCG.  Please see example picture above showing the expected display on the PCG when power is connected.  Refit any panels of the bus that were removed to access the USB port and secure the display screen in the same position the faulty device was removed from.
