App for driver - operating on the trip screen

  • Login to the Transportme™ Operator app or QLDSchoolBus app or TfNSW Driver app (app).
  • Check Pre-departure check, define Bus Damage, enter Fault Message if these functions are available. 
  • Select Select Route tab from the main menu.
  • Select Route Category > select Trip > select Done button.

From the trip screen, the driver can sell cash or cashless tickets or let the passenger tapping on and off during the trip, they can also add funds to smartcard, etc.

CHANGING STOPS

Automatically
  • Changing stop mode on the app is Automatic by default. 
  • When the driver starts the route and drives the bus, as long as the driver follows the correct stops order - the app will automatically identify the current stop based on the Ipad GPS and update the current stop on the screen.

  • Boarding Point shows the current stop name.
  • The driver can update the current stop manually by selecting a stop in the Stop List following the driver's confirmation. 
Manually

In some cases, when the driver app cannot detect GPS (the GPS Strength is 'No Signal') or the GPS data is not accurate enough (GPS Strength is 'Poor' or 'Not Available'), the Boarding Point cannot be changed automatically. In such instances, the driver would need to switch to manual mode and follow these steps: 

  • Step 1: Select the Manual button. 
  • Step 2: When the bus arrives at the stop, the driver should select the right arrow button to change the stop

SELLING TICKETS TO NON SMARTCARD PASSENGERS

The driver can sell tickets to passengers who don't use smartcards.  Notes: for TfNSW Driver app, driver cannot sell multiple tickets to different destination in the same transaction. 

  • To sell the tickets: 
    • Step 1Select Passenger Type/s section. The passenger type here is the ticket type which will define the ticket price or fare amount.

      • select the ticket type from available ticket type list which is defined by the operators. There are different ticket type can be shown here to select - the number of shown ticket types is configured by the bus operator. Some of popular ticket type: 
        • Flat Rate: the ticket has a fixed amount regardless where the passenger board or deboard. The amount is set up by the bus operator. 
        • Manual Rate: the ticket price is decided by the driver. The driver will enter the amount. 
        • Section Rate: the ticket price is decided by the boarding and deboarding points which is set up by the operator in advance. 
      • select number of tickets - select up and down arrow next to the ticket type for the number of tickets.
    • Step 2Select Destinations section:

      • select the deboarding stops from popular stop list OR select the bus icon the find more stops and select deboarding stop. 
      • (optional - when a manual price ticket is selected) enter ticket price - the driver will be asked to provide the manual ticket price if the selected ticket type was manual ticket.

    • Step 3: Verify transaction details included ticket type, boarding and deboarding point, ticket price, total ticket price, total tickets.

    • Step 4: Select payment method:

      • Sell & Print: sell tickets by cash and do not print out the tickets. 
      • Sell & No Print: sell tickets by cash and print out the tickets. 
      • Tap & Pay: sell tickets by cashless method such as credit card and print out the tickets. The transaction will be sent to the connected PAX POS device so the passenger can tap and pay. Please ensure that the driver does not drive to the next stop before payment has been processed on the iPad.
  • The Total Passengers will be increased by the number of tickets have just been sold.

SMARTCARDS

  • Depending on the smartcard's type and deduct mode, there are different behaviours can happen when the cards are tapped on or off on the app. Smartcard types were defined in advance by the operators. 
  • Reference steps when smartcard is tapped on on the vehicle:
    • Step 1: smartcard holder tap on the smartcard on the installed card reader device such as Pax POS device. Driver can use Search Smartcard button to select the smartcard when the cardholder forgot their physical smartcard.

    • Step 2: driver follows the next steps that the app instructs. 
      • if deduct mode is tap on only: the driver will be asked to select the deboarding stop at the tapping on moment at Smartcard Charge screen. 
      • if deduct mode is tap on and off: the driver will be asked to select the deboarding stop when the cardholder taps off the card. Note: this happens only when the operator configured so. 
      • Smartcard Charge screen (option): 
        • Driver Select Destination from popular stop list or from other stop list. 
        • Driver app will calculate the charge amount automatically based on the selected destination stop. 
        • Driver select action:

          • Sell & print: charge amount will be deducted from the smartcard account and ticket will be printed out. 
          • Sell & no print: charge amount will be deducted from the smartcard account and ticket will not be printed out. 

Note

  • Smartcard double tapped: in order to avoid the same smartcard is used at the same boarding point more than one time, the app will show different messages to alert the drivers.
    • TAP ON ONLY smartcard: 
      •  Any tap within 10s from the first tap on: the app will show Card double tapped message at the bottom of the app and deny the tap.

      • Any tap after 10s from the first tap on: the app will show Duplicated Payment message at the bottom of the app and deny the tap.

    • TAP ON AND OFF smartcard
      • Any tap within 10s from the tap on: the app will play an alert sound "Double tap" and the tap is denied.
      • Any tap after 10s from the tap on: the app will show a message Smartcard tapped off at the same boarding point. Do you want to allow?. Driver select OK button to accept the tap; Or driver selects Cancel button to deny the tap.

  • Over 90% capacity: If the number of passenger on board is greater than 90% of defined capacity of the vehicle, the app will show alert to notify the driver. This will happen when the operator enable module Passenger Crowding
  • Besides the above features, drivers can also add fund, change drivers, void tickets, send duress messages to the office, etc while operating the trip. Please check related articles for more details.
